Free PTSD Test
A symptom checklist used around trauma, nightmares, avoidance, and feeling constantly on guard. Screening only — not a diagnosis.
What this test measures
The PCL-5 asks how much PTSD-related symptoms have bothered you recently. It is used in clinics and research as a screen after trauma. Only a clinician can diagnose PTSD; this page helps you see whether a conversation would be useful.
Intrusive memories, avoidance, negative mood or beliefs, and hyperarousal (jumpiness, sleep problems, irritability) linked to a traumatic event.
How scoring works
Items are rated by how much they bothered you. Higher totals mean more reported symptoms. If reminders of trauma feel overwhelming, you can stop and come back with support.
Lower · Few symptoms
Distress may still be real; this screen is not picking up a dense PTSD pattern.
Mid · Some symptoms
Worth talking through with a trauma-informed therapist.
Higher · Many symptoms
Specialist trauma support is recommended. You do not have to go through this alone.
This is a screening questionnaire, not a medical diagnosis. Results are for self-awareness only. If you are in crisis or thinking about harming yourself, contact local emergency services or a helpline immediately. In India you can reach iCall at 9152987821, AASRA at 9820466726, or Vandrevala Foundation at 1860-2662-345. If you are in immediate danger, call emergency services.
